Nolan C. (Gus) Galloway Jr.
Nolan C. “Gus” Galloway Jr., founder of Gus Galloway Realty, was a respected leader in the Ocala real estate community and a pioneer in commercial brokerage in Marion County. Born in Asheboro, North Carolina in 1937, he was known as Nolan throughout his early years before earning the nickname “Gus” during his time at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. He later transferred to the University of South Carolina, where he graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Gus began his professional career in pharmaceutical sales, working first with Burroughs Wellcome and later with Roche Laboratories. After years of success in that field and a period of serious consideration toward the priesthood, he transitioned into real estate in 1970, joining Charlie Rogers Realty. In 1975, he purchased the company and renamed it Gus Galloway Realty. Under his leadership, the firm grew into a respected general real estate company before evolving into a specialized commercial brokerage—a transformation that reflected Gus’s strategic vision and commitment to serving the needs of Ocala’s growing business community.
Gus was the first broker in Marion County to earn both the CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) designation from the Commercial Real Estate Council of the National Association of Realtors in 1988 and the SIOR (Society of Industrial and Office Realtors) designation in 1991. His contributions to the profession extended beyond brokerage; he served as President of the Ocala Multiple Listing Service and was named Realtor of the Year in 1978, before becoming President of the Ocala/Marion County Board of Realtors in 1979. He also served as a director for the Florida Association of Realtors and as District Vice President for the Florida CCIM Chapter.
Throughout his career, Gus represented a wide range of clients with integrity and professionalism, working as a single agent broker for buyers, sellers, landlords, and tenants alike. His leadership, mentorship, and unwavering work ethic left a lasting legacy in the Ocala real estate market.
Outside of real estate, Gus enjoyed quail hunting, fitness, reading, and spending quality time with his eleven grandchildren. He found peace and joy in the mountains of North Carolina, where he spent time with his beloved wife, Mary Carolyn, whenever possible. His contributions to his industry and community continue to be felt, and he is remembered with great respect by those who had the privilege to know and work with him.
